Who would you be?

The question is “Who would you be creatively if you didn’t have to be anything?

Your vocation is innate to who you are. You don’t have to search for it, but peel off the layers of social conditioning and personal insecurity covering it.

You’re like a seed buried in the potentially wrong ground. Your creativity is innate, all you have to do is remove the distractions, so it can slowly manifest and grow naturally. Until one day it gets to blossom, fully, as your unique purpose in the world.

Listen to yourself. Let that voice of joy speak. Don’t silence it under the noise of seeking security… in money, recognition and everything but your innate vocation and purpose in the world.

Live better,

The 4 Properties of Truth

I was having lunch with a friend one day, and she asked me “What is Truth?”

Such a simple question, apparently, and yet quite a gigantic one as well.

I looked at her confused, and said “Well, it depends. Such big concepts like Truth, Love, Spirituality etc., can be defined in many ways, from different angles, and at different levels of understanding and accuracy.”

So one objective definition that would seem universal is almost impossible.

And yet, in my own search for truth and spiritual journey, I’ve come across some descriptions that are better than others. And eventually had some insights of my own that kind of settled this question for me.

So what is truth?

Truth is that which helps. That which allows you to see and live better. Because truth describes the inherent harmony of life, and helps us move closer to that way of being and seeing.

One of my favorite quotes ever, is by the Sufi poet Rumi, who describes truth this way:

What does it mean to do work you love?

Well, it means 3 things.

That you use your natural gifts, for a cause you really care about, and in a way that you actually enjoy.

And all 3 of these are important. Otherwise something is off.

1

If you’re not using your gifts, you’re bored. Your unique creative nature is not being engaged. You’re like a fish climbing a tree. Not in your element. You’re performing some task, rather than being engaged and excited by it.

7 Stages of Creative Development

A metaphorical and potentially helpful tool to understand the journey of our creative development would be to distinguish these 7 different stages.

  • The city is when you’re running along like everyone else trying to live up to the cultural values of security and success. Risk and authenticity here are dangerous, you don’t even think about it.

  • The forest is when the way you live no longer fits you. You’ve outgrown those cultural values and are ready to discover and follow your own, but not sure if it’s safe to do so.

Intro to The 3 Paradigms

There are 3 ways to see life:

1 I don’t trust life

2 I trust myself

3 I trust life

A paradigm is a way of seeing life. An overall point of view that affects all areas of life. And as we evolve as human beings we tend to go through these 3 major paradigms, one after the other. Which go from Less Accurate in terms of how life really works, to More Accurate, and thus closer to Truth.

Spirituality helps us move in that direction.

So let’s explore these 3 different ways of thinking, aka. paradigms.

Your Readiness For Doing Work You Love

There’s a parable told by Jesus that beautifully describes someone’s readiness for a message, for a new insight or understanding.

It’s called the parable of the sower, and it goes like this: “A sower went to sow his seeds, and some fell on the road, and never took root. Some fell on shallow soil, and even though they took some roots, it wasn’t enough, and the sun scorched the tender plants. Others fell on good soil, and took good roots, but eventually other plants suffocated them, and they too died. While the rest of the seeds fell on good fertile soil, took roots, grew and gave a great crop.”

The Ideal FORM for Work

There is a profound theory by Plato, where he talks about how each existent thing has a perfect Form, like a perfect design or idea in the mind of God, out of which then creation comes.

And so, the Forms of things are perfect, while when it comes to creation and their manifestation, they are not yet perfect. They are in a process of reaching that ideal Form.

The 3 Flavors of Suffering

What I’ve come to observe in my journey to aligned living is that the flavor of suffering changes as we evolve. The quality of it, you could say, changes.

Which is a normal part of the process. Because it reflects the new stage we’re at, and the type of process that we’re going through at this stage.

As we begin living more authentically, we leave behind older types of suffering, and the flavor of our current suffering changes.

The Way of The Secure Being

The way of the Secure Being is being secure enough to let life take care of itself. It’s the way of non interference, from a reactive place of insecurity, forcing, trying, seeking. It’s letting things happen. Because you have arrived at a place of clarity, where you KNOW that you can trust life to take care of itself.

Financially Secure Inside

Being financially secure doesn’t mean having a predictable source of income that you can rely on, and having to constantly control that source and strive or sacrifice to keep it going.

Being financially secure means recognizing life’s all giving nature, and relying on it, as you’re brave enough to follow your joy day to day.

Financial security is not external, but an internal awareness of life’s generosity, which gives you the courage to be true to yourself. To do what you love.
